Renting a car in Orlando
Orlando is one of the few US cities where a car is genuinely non-negotiable for most visitors.
| Airports served | MCO, SFB (Sanford) |
| Tolls | SunPass / E-PASS. Central Florida runs on cashless toll roads |
| Typical drive times | Disney 25 min · Universal 15 min · Cocoa Beach 1h · Tampa 1h30 |
| Parking | Theme-park parking is a daily charge; resort self-parking is often charged nightly too |
| Busiest months | Spring break, summer, and the last two weeks of December |
| Minimum driver age | Usually 21, with a young-driver surcharge under 25 |
Drive times are typical off-peak figures and toll arrangements change. Your agent confirms anything critical for your specific booking in writing before you commit.
What the car is actually for
- The parks, outlets and beaches are spread across the metro and beyond
- Families with strollers and luggage outgrow a sedan quickly
- Shuttle schedules cost more time than the rental costs money
How collecting the car works
You approve a written all-in total from a named agent. Nothing is reserved before that.
We send the rental supplier’s own confirmation number, in your name. You can verify it with them directly.
You present your licence and a card in the main driver’s name at the counter, and they take the deposit.
You sign the rental agreement with the supplier, not with us. What you need to bring.
What catches people out in Orlando
Tolls are the trap, not the rate
Central Florida is cashless. Every supplier sells a transponder and the pricing models differ sharply — flat daily fee whether used or not, per-day-of-use, or pass-through plus an admin charge per toll. We put the exact product and cost on the quote.
Book the size you actually need
Minivans and full-size SUVs go first around US school holidays. Five people with a week of luggage do not fit a midsize sedan, and finding that out at the counter is an expensive discovery.
Classes we quote most in Orlando
US rentals are booked by class, never by model — every confirmation in the industry reads “or similar”.
Midsize sedan
- 5 seats
- 3 bags
- Long-drive comfort
The default American road-trip car. Comfortable at highway speed for hours, sensible on fuel, big enough for a family of four with luggage.
What this class really meansStandard SUV
- 5–7 seats
- 4 bags
- Optional third row
Midsize SUVs, sometimes with a small third row. The usual pick for a family of four with a lot of gear.

- Towing-capable models
Genuine seven- and eight-seat SUVs with luggage space behind the third row on the larger models.

Seven adults and their bags, sliding doors in tight car parks, and the flattest ride of anything this size.

What we will not claim about Orlando
- We do not publish a headline daily rate here. A rate without your dates, class and driver age is not information.
- We are not claiming to be the cheapest option for this market. Sometimes a corporate or loyalty rate booked direct beats anything we can quote, and we will say so.
- We do not state any rental company’s deposit, card or age policy as fixed. Those are theirs, they differ by branch, and we confirm yours in writing instead.
- Odovera is an independent travel agency, not a car rental company. The vehicle is supplied by the rental company you sign with at the counter.
Car rental in Orlando — asked and answered
Which toll product should I take in Orlando?
It depends entirely on your route. A flat daily fee can cost more than the tolls on a short trip; pass-through plus admin fees can cost more on a long one. Tell us where you are driving and we will quote the right one.
Do I need a minivan for a family of five?
With a week of luggage and a stroller, usually yes. A standard SUV third row is a jump seat. We will size it against your actual bags rather than the category name.
Is Odovera a car rental company?
No. Odovera is an independent travel agency, a brand of Affluence Hospitality LLC. We arrange reservations with third-party rental suppliers on your behalf and are not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any rental brand. You sign the rental agreement with the supplier at the counter, under their terms.
Does it cost more than booking direct?
Usually not. On most bookings the supplier pays us a commission out of the rate you were going to pay anyway. Where a service fee applies instead, it is shown as its own line on the quote before you approve anything. Where booking direct genuinely wins — a corporate rate, loyalty status — we tell you.
